Children and Youth all over Ghana will participate in the campaign with a clear message to leaders “We Can’t Wait; Stand Up, Take Action, End Climate Change and Poverty Now.’ The campaign will call on Ghanaians and the world to stand up for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and take actions that send clear and powerful message to governments and leadership; Keep your promises to end poverty and achieve the MDGs.

Following an official launch ceremony in Accra on the 06 October with the Ghanian Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, the caravan will travel through nine different regions of Ghana with a public climate justice hearing being organised in each one. Passing throughTumu, Nyariga, Bongo, Bolgatanga, Savelugu, Tachiman, Kibi, Kumasi, Keta, Asutuare, Ashaiman, the organisers will document the reality on the ground; hearing from people about how their livelihoods are being affected by climate change, and about the potential transformation that people can come up with in agriculture, enterprise and energy infrastructure. Testimonies will be gathered from Youth groups, pupils and students, women groups, farmers, agro-processors, traders, teachers, health workers, religious leaders, traditional leaders, District Chief Executives, MPs, NADMO Staff will participate in the hearings which will aim to leverage political pressure for action on climate change and for sustainable development at a national and/or regional level, and at an international level in the run up to Copenhagen.

The Climate Change Caravan is being organised by GCAP Child and Youth Task Force members the Ghana National Youth Coalition on Climate Change (GNYCC).

The Ghana National Youth Coalition on Climate Change (GNYCC) is a platform of the Ghana CSOs-MDG Campaign working on climate change issues. It is the largest and the most distributed youth network on climate change in the country. Its membershipincludes students, youth, Civil Society Organization (CSOs) /Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs)and recognized Community Based Organizations (CBOs) interested and involved in environment, climate change and livelihood.
