In first press conference, the UNMC Indonesia introduced to the media several SUTA Ambassadors who are Indonesia’s high profiles including film producer, TV artist and host, singer and others. Fourth of them who attended the press conference are Nia Dinata (Left – Right), a film producer who has produced many films on women rights and empowerment, Indy Barends, a very popular TV host who is also a mother and an advocate of “exclusive breastfeeding initiative”, Iwet Ramadhan, a radio announcer, TV host as well as an activist, and Pandji, who is a rap singer, radio announcer, and TV host in one of national TV station in Indonesia. More celebrities are recruited as SUTA Ambassadors, and they are selected based on their commitment to use their huge influences to influence youths to raise their awareness and actions as well as call for government’s actions to achieve MDGs. The celebrities shared their concerns of Indonesia’s non-achieved Goals while we have only six years to achieve them in the press conference. The high profiles also show their supports to the Stand Up Take Action Campaign which will take place in partnership with various civil society, student associations, faith-based organizations, local governments, and others.

The press conference also launched an MDG campaign song, written and sang by Saykoji, another popular rap singer who has given his song pro-bono for the Campaign, “Andai Aku Bisa” (Wish I Could). In that song, Saykoji calls for world leaders to fulfill their promises made in 2000 and call for actions to end poverty now. The video clip has been distributed and aired in 11 national TV stations and also radio stations to help create people attention to the SUTA campaign. The second press conference took place in State Ministry for Communication and Information Technology organized by National Commission for Child Protection (KPAI), which is a partner of UNMC and will organize various activities through its local offices in at least 10 provinces of Indonesia. Hadi Supeno, Director of KPAI, and Freddy Tulung, Head of Public Information Agency, State Ministry for Communication and Information Technology, gave thorough information of the SUTA campaign as well as the needs to give more affirtmative actions of child’s rights of all policies and programmes to reduce poverty and achieve MDGs. Minar Pimple and Wilson Siahaan of UN Millennium Campaign attended this press conference and provided general discussion regarding the SUTA campaign on 16-18 October globally and in Indonesia to more than 15 media people.

Hadi Supeno, Director KPAI, and Wilson Siahaan, UNMC Campaign and Advocacy Analyst, explained and discussed the SUTA campaign as well as the inter-linkages of MDGs and child’s rights in one hour radio talk show Public Discussion programme, broadcasted live nationally by Radio Republic Indonesia (RRI) Programme-3. The discussion was very interesting as we received phone questions from different parts of Indonesia regarding the campaign and the child’s rights, a very interesting topic in Indonesia especially in current response to the earthquake aftermath in Sumatra provinces.
